I was always looking forward to photographing Camellia and Benny’s wedding set at the majestic Gear Homestead, Porirua. It was a traditional western style wedding with Chinese theme touches. Camellia and Benny are so easy going and their enthusiasm for life and love for each other shows in all their photographs. Rain threatened throughout the day which eventuated into only a few showers. But this did not dampen the day at all but rather enhanced it. The soft overcast lighting was perfect for photographing Camellia’s stunning red dress, which your eyes go straight to, in all the colour photos.
Crossing the bridge at Gear Homestead always makes for a dramatic entrance to the start of ceremony proceedings.
I always love capturing those moments of joy and laughter that evaporate any feelings of nervousness that there may be.
I saw this building a couple of weeks before the wedding knowing that the green backdrop could work perfectly with Camellia’s red dress, if the lighting was right. I was so lucky because the lighting during the day was perfect. All that was left was for Camellia and Benny to be themselves.
